Originally the home of the Cox and King's bank, the Sofitel St James Hotel is housed in a Grade II listed building with an ornate neoclassical façade. The grand, spacious lobby is beautifully appointed with a marble floor and retains many original features combined with contemporary additions. Throughout the hotel, the public areas are enhanced by original art works acquired from the bank. The 186 medium sized guestrooms, designed by Pierre Yves Rochon, feature rich fabrics and warm, contemporary decor. They are kept in excellent condition, as are the black and white marble bathrooms, with granite and chrome fittings. The hotel offers a variety of dining options. The main restaurant, Brasserie Roux – creation of the world-renowned chef Albert Roux – serves ‘new classic French cuisine’ with an emphasis on fresh ingredients. The St James Bar, decorated in the style of an English gentleman’s club, is ideal for pre/post dinner drinks, and boasts a humidor and an open fireplace. Guests can also enjoy a traditional afternoon tea in the elegant Rose Lounge amidst an eclectic mix of colours and styles.
